THE DHARAVI PROJECT

ACADEMIC | THESIS | PUBLIC SPACE | 2022 In urban fabric, people and the city has a symbotic form of relationship. The informal settlements function in the shared city concept of urban spaces and amenities. Dharavi is one such informal settlement which has emerged to be a micro city. It is an aggolomeration of multiple subculture communities densily fabricated with various small scale industries, commercial and residential area. The space becomes a community asset and identity. Understanding the relationship of community with open spaces , placemaking of urban slums becomes the first step towards slum upgradation. The project intent is to understand the multilevels of public spaces in Dharavi and recycle underused potential openspaces to effective public space with amenities.
